Hola
Another week in Spain, gone!! The weather has finally improved, and I even have a sunburn on my face!! this week, I took a day trip to Ganada to visit the ancient Alhambra. This was of great importance to the history of Spain--dating back to the 1200's. This is the castle where Ferdinand and Isabella granted the money for Columbus to do his exploration--you could almost feel their presence as we walked through it!! This is the most visited site in Spain, with over 8,000 visitors daily!!
I met some lovely ladies too--4 of the them were celebrating 50 years of friendship--they all started with the British Foreign Service--I just had to ask if they knew 007 (ha, ha!!)

Footings of where the solders lived--a toilet, and 3 rooms, with a sunlit square in the middle. The baths were located in a different area.

View of the cathedral from the fortress. This is the second largest cathedral, next to Malaga--the third largest in the world.

The building on the hill is the summer palace.

Granada is the home to the Sierra Nevada mountains, the home of the Spanish ski team.

The original gate leading into the palace.

The building at the end of this is where all the decisions were made by the rulters. It is decorated with thousands of colorful tiles and mosaics.

This is also a very beautiful place where the queens lived.

Quite the ceiling!!

The beautiful gardens surrounding the castle.

This is where they grew food for the fort.
